NBA Academy women’s camp gets underway

The 18 girls in the camp were trained by prominent figures in women’s basketball in Jennifer Azzi, Ruth Riley, and Ebony Hoffman, among others.

The NBA Academy women’s camp for the Under-17 girls from across the country got underway here on Sunday.

The 18 girls in the camp were trained by the Atlanta Olympics gold medallist Jennifer Azzi, the Athens Olympics gold medallist and two-time WNBA champion Ruth Riley, former WNBA player Ebony Hoffman and former college coach Blair Hardiek, among others.

The campers began the with warm-up drills — fundamental drills like ball handling, shooting and passing — before stepping up the game. They also played a 5-on-5 game.

‘Friendly, kind and warm-hearted’

“Everyone is so friendly, kind and warm-hearted. The girls have fantastic attitude and that is something I love the most. I already see quite a bit of skill in the first morning of [the] camp. I am impressed,” said Azzi.

“Really impressed with what we are seeing in these girls. Great fundamentals and the girls are really hungry to learn and are working very hard,” said Riley.
