DABA calls for free and fair selection

The Delhi Amateur Boxing Association has blamed the BFI of having an unfair selection process that favours boxers from Services.

In a mail to Boxing Federation of India (BFI) president Ajay Singh, DABA general secretary D.N. Yadav held head coach C.A. Kuttappa responsible for boxers leaving the national camp in Patiala.

Raising doubts about the selection procedure to induct elite men boxers in the National camp, the Delhi Amateur Boxing Association (DABA) has alleged that some campers left the National camp at Patiala due to the “unfair selection process.”

In a mail to Boxing Federation of India (BFI) president Ajay Singh, DABA general secretary D.N. Yadav said apart from the selection process the “behaviour of the head coach who is a current employee of Indian Army” is responsible for the boxers leaving the camp. “He is always favouring boxers from Services,” he added.

Yadav requested Ajay Singh to take corrective measures to “ensure free and fair” selection.

BFI Executive Director R.K. Sacheti said some boxers left the camp primarily due to injury and weeding-out process. “Every quarter we do a selection trial to weed out lower ranked boxers and invite new boxers to the National camp. The allegation related to head coach C.A. Kuttappa is not correct as he was not part of the selection trials,” said Sacheti.
