Vijender to take on Ghana's Ernest Amuzu

Undefeated professional boxer Vijender Singh will take on West African champion Ernest Amuzu to defend his WBO Asia Pacific and Oriental super middleweight titles at the Sawai Mansingh Indoor Stadium in Jaipur on December 23.

Vijender, who defeated Chinese boxer Zulpikar Maimaitiali to win the Oriental title in August, has secured nine wins, including seven knockouts and two unanimous decisions.

The 32-year-old Indian, who is placed ninth in the WBO rankings, said, “I am training hard for the last two months and still have three weeks to go for my next fight. Looking forward for a victory in the third title fight in a row.”

Amuzu, the 34-year-old boxer from Ghana, is hopeful of winning his 26th bout in the pro circuit. He has 23 wins under his belt, including 21 knockouts, of 25 fights.

On his first fight in Asia, the experienced Amuzu said, “I know Vijender is a good boxer and has been an unbeatable in his pro career so far, but I will give him a tough challenge. I am confident that he will lose his both the titles in front of his home crowd…I am fully prepared to beat Vijender in first three-four rounds for a knockout win.”
