Women outnumber men in Youth Boxing qualifiers

The women’s section will be spearheaded by 2017 World Youth champion Nitu; in the men’s section, Asian Youth silver medallist Ankit will be under spotlight.

Sixteen boxers, including 10 women, have qualified to represent India in the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championship to be held in Budapest, Hungary, in August.

The women’s section will be spearheaded by 2017 World Youth champion Nitu (48 kg) and Shakshi Choudhary (57 Kg).

National champion Jony (60 kg) will look to make the most of this opportunity after missing out on the Worlds event last year.

Accompanying them will be World Youth bronze medallist Neha Yadav (+81 kg), Asian Youth gold medallists Manisha (64 kg) and Lalita (69 kg), silver medallists Anamika (51 kg), Astha Pahwa (75 kg) and Sakshi Gaidhani (81 kg) and bronze medal winner Divya Pawar (54 kg).

In the men’s section, Asian Youth silver medallist Ankit (60 kg), Asian youth bronze medallist Bhavesh Kattimani (52 kg), Akash Kumar (56 kg), Akash (64kg), Vijay Deep (69 kg) and Ronak (81 kg) will also look to make their mark.

The World Youth Championship will serve as the last opportunity to qualify for the Youth Olympics to be held in Buenos Aires later this year.
