Tania Sachdev helps India win; Adhiban’s loss ends in second defeat for men
Tania’s triumph tilted the scales in India’s favour since D. Harika, Padmini Rout and S. Vijayalakshmi drew their games.

Tania Sachdev’s 51-move victory over Sabina-Francesca Foisor proved decisive as India defeated United States of America 2.5-1.5 in the second round of the ladies’ World team chess championship here on Sunday. India has three match-points while Russia leads the 10-nation field with four match-points.
Tania’s triumph tilted the scales in India’s favour since D. Harika, Padmini Rout and S. Vijayalakshmi drew their games; however, in the open section, India suffered a second straight loss. A day after surrendering to Poland, India lost to formidable China 1.5-2.5.
B. Adhiban lost again while Vidit Gujarathi and seasoned K. Sasikiran drew against higher-rated rivals. Parimarjan Negi kept alive his chances of forcing a victory but a gritty Li Chao defended accurately. The resultant draw earned China a hard-fought victory.
