Keeping the World Cup in mind, the Afghanistan cricket team will travel to South Africa in April for a three- week preparatory camp.

While most of the players will be touring with the team, the ones who have Indian Premier League (IPL) commitments will not be available. They will mostly join the team in the UK in May, Afghanistan Cricket Board officials told Sportstar .

The team management chose South Africa as its destination for the bouncy wickets. It will help the seam bowlers, and even the batters can gain confidence by trying their shots on a tough track.

Before the World Cup — which begins on May 30 — the team will play four limited-over games in Scotland and Ireland.

“We have a camp in South Africa next month. We need to work hard for the World Cup, and need to believe in ourselves,” Afghanistan batsman, Hashmatullah Shahidi, told this publication during an interview.

This will be the second World Cup appearance for the Afghans after 2015.
