R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja scripted history at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium on Thursday, forging the highest seventh-wicket partnership of 195 runs. The duo eclipsed Jadeja and Karun Nair’s 2016 record of 138 runs against England.

Rescuing India from 144/6 in 43 overs, Ashwin and Jadeja’s unbeaten stand revitalised the team’s fortunes.

Ashwin began with aggressive intent, striking 10 fours and two sixes en route to his century in 108 balls. Jadeja played a supporting role, progressing to 86* by day’s end.
