From Sachin Tendulkar to Shikhar Dhawan, here are the top five run-scorers for India in the Asia Cup.

As India heads into the 2022 Asia Cup as the most successful side in the history of the tournament, here is a look at the top five run-scorers for the country at the continental event who have been key to the success of the Men in Blue.

Sachin Tendulkar (971 runs)

The all-time leading run-scorer in Tests and ODIs, the legendary Sachin Tendulkar also tops the charts for India in the Asia Cup. With a whopping 971 runs in 21 innings under his belt, Tendulkar averages over 51 and has two hundreds and seven half-centuries at the event. Tendulkar was India’s top run-scorer in the 1995 and 2004 editions of the continental tournament and scored his 100th international century against Bangladesh in the 2012 edition, albeit in a losing cause.

Rohit Sharma (883 runs)

The current India captain will head in the 2022 Asia Cup as India’s second-highest run-getter in the tournament with 883 runs in 26 innings. Rohit was most prolific in the 2018 edition - the last time the event was held - scoring 317 runs in five innings and a hundred in India’s nine-wicket thumping of Pakistan. In the inaugural T20 edition of the Asia Cup in 2016, Rohit had mixed returns with 138 runs in five innings at an average of 27.60.

Virat Kohli (766 runs)

Former India captain Virat Kohli’s run-glut in international cricket has continued through the Asia Cup as he is the third most prolific Indian batter in the history of the tournament with 766 runs in just 14 innings at as astounding average of 63.83. Kohli is also the only Indian batter to score three hundreds in the Asia Cup and was the leading run-scorer for the country in the 2012 and 2016 editions. His career best of 183 in ODIs also came at the continental event, when he helped India chase down a mammoth 330 against archrival Pakistan in 2012.

His 690 runs in 20 innings have come at stupendous average of 69.00 and include a century and three fifties. Dhoni’s most successful campaign was in his debut Asia Cup in 2008, when he scored 327 runs in six matches while averaging 109.00. Shikhar Dhawan

India’s big tournament player Shikhar Dhawan has enjoyed a fine run in the Asia Cup too, with his 613 runs in 13 innings making him the country’s fifth-highest run-scorer at the event. Dhawan was India’s top run-getter in the 2018 edition, scoring 342 runs in five matches and smashing two hundreds. The southpaw, however, wasn’t at his best in the T20 edition of the tournament in 2016, eking out 79 runs in four innings but struck a title-winning 60 in the final against Bangladesh.
