Amitabh cites health reasons for missing ICC, ACC meetings

The Committee of Administrators (CoA) had show caused Choudhary for his absence at the two meetings and observed that his “conduct left the BCCI unrepresented in the meetings and exposed the organisation to considerable risk.”

The BCCI’s acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary has cited health and visa-related issues for not attending the International Cricket Council’s annual conference in London last July and the Asian Cricket Council meeting in Bangkok in the first week of September. Choudhary is a director in the ICC and ACC Executive Boards.

Five more associations become BCCI compliant The Committee of Administrators (CoA) has approved the constitutions/ bylaws of Arunachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Chhattisgarh. This is in addition to the constitutions of 18 BCCI member associations it had approved before. The CoA had told the Supreme Court on September 20 that only three to four associations have to amend their constitutions in terms with the BCCI’s.  The CoA has set October 4 as the deadline for all the BCCI member associations to conduct its election. The BCCI election officer has also issued an advisory stating that associations have to nominate its representative for the BCCI AGM/election on or before October 4.

The CoA requested the ICC to allow the BCCI’s CEO Rahul Johri as an alternate director, but it was turned down. Johri, though, was allowed to attend the ICC Board meeting as an observer.

Choudhary remains a director on the ICC and ACC Board; a Supreme Court order of April 17, 2017 allowed him to attend the ICC meetings. The same order also named Johri to attend the ICC Chief Executives meeting.

Next meeting

The next quarterly meeting of the ICC is to be held in Dubai from Oct. 12 to 14 and Choudhary is expected to travel to the UAE. But Vinod Rai, the head of CoA, said that all decisions related to Dubai meeting will be taken at the CoA meeting in New Delhi on Oct. 1.

The BCCI will get a chance to nominate a new representative (director) to the ICC and ACC at its Annual General Meeting here on Oct. 23.
