CoA asks Players' Association to speed up registration process

The Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) has asked the steering committee of the Players’ Association to speed up the registration process.

In December 2017, almost a year after being appointed by the Supreme Court, the CoA had called up former cricketers Kapil Dev, Anshuman Gaekwad, Shantha Rangaswamy and Bharath Reddy to set up the Association.

Even though the four former cricketers met on a couple of occasions, nothing materialised.

But in its meeting on Monday, the CoA has made it clear that the registration process for the association needs to be done faster. “There are a few paper works and legal bindings, but we are hoping that the registration process will be done in the next couple of weeks,” one of the BCCI officials told Sportstar .

“The members have been told about what’s to be done and together with the BCCI, we hope that the association is set up soon,” the Board official said.

However, some of the members of the committee denied being kept in the loop. “We did have a few meetings in the past and have given our recommendations to the CoA. But we haven’t heard anything yet,” one of the members said, admitting that the registration process is still pending.

In the CoA meeting, it was also decided that with PayTm’s tenure coming to an end, the Board will invite fresh tender for title sponsorship of domestic tournaments and international games in India. PayTm, it has been learned, can also bid.
