Deepak Chahar narrowly missed out on taking a hat-trick but ended up picking four wickets.

India's latest hat-trick hero Deepak Chahar narrowly missed out on registering yet another hat-trick, this time during the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

During Rajasthan's match against Vidarbha, Chahar was on the verge of claiming a second hat-trick within a space of three days. However, a wide ball from the medium pacer denied him achieve the feat.

Chahar took three wickets off the last three legal deliveries, but bowled a wide after claiming a wicket after the fourth ball. Although he immediately took a wicket the next ball, a wide in between two dismissals didn't allow Chahar to register a hat-trick. He ended up with match figures 4/18 in three overs.

Rules suggest, a bowler has to take three wickets off three consecutive legal deliveries for it to be considered as a hat-trick. In this case, Chahar bowled a wide and hence couldn't achieve the feat.

Chahar, bowling the final over dismissed Vidarbha's Darshan Nalkande of the fourth ball, then bowled a wide before removing Shrikant Wagh and Akshay Wadkar. He dismissed Rushabh Rathod earlier in the over and returned with the figures of 3-0-18-4.

Although Chahar missed out on a hat-trick, Uttarakhand's Mayank Mishra was successful in taking a hat-trick against Goa.

Mishra single-handedly wiped out Goa's middle order when he dismissed Aditya Kaushik, Amit Verma and Suyash Prabhudessai in the third over of the innings.
