Player of the Match: Shubman Gill (106*, 111b, 8*4, 3*6)
There's the win and it comes from the bat of Shubman Gill who hit a brilliant unbeaten century to take his team into the final. He was ably supported by Suryakumar Yadav who hit a belligerent unbeaten half-century as the duo made the run chase look easy. However, credit goes to Ishan Kishan also who made a valuable half-century and along with Shubman bailed the team out of trouble. Chasing 294, India C was struggling at 85/3 when the pair of Shubman and Ishan started the repair work and forged a match-winning 121-run stand for the fourth wicket. After Ishan departed, it was Suryakumar who took the onus and went after the bowlers. Suryakumar and Shubman added an unbeaten 90-run partnership for the fifth wicket and made most of an India A attack that lacked tooth. India C will meet India B in the final at the Feroz Shah Kotla on Saturday.
16:30: Fifty for Suryakumar Yadav and what an innings this has been. Suryakumar has hit four massive sixes and a couple of boundaries en route to his fifty and most importantly took the pressure off Shubman Gill.
16:25: A couple of pick up shot for two massive sixes from Suryakumar Yadav has changed the equation completely. India C requires 12 in 25 deliveries.
16:20: Mohammed Siraj is back into the attack with Shubman Gill on 96. India C requires 26 runs in 29 deliveries.
15:59: Shubman Gill has his sights firm on a century and most importantly India C will hope the young man continues to bat. With Suryakumar Yadav in company, India C has a genuine chance to overhaul the target. India C needs 66 runs in 60 deliveries with six wickets in hand.
15:39 pm: WICKET! R Ashwin breaks the century stand as he traps Ishan Kishan. Ishan goes on the backfoot in an attempt to play the cut shot but was undone by Ashwin's slider. India C 206/4 in 35.4 overs. Suryakumar Yadav is the new man in.
15:32 pm: 100-run partnership - Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan bring up their 100-run partnership for the fourth wicket and what a turnaround this has been. Two of India's future stars have literally toiled with the India A bowling. Both batsmen have shown great composure, sound technique and have played some magnificent shots. India C 202/3 at the end of 35 overs.
15:22 pm: Dhawal Kulkarni is back into the attack
Our correspondent, Abhishek Mukherjee, reports from Kotla: An imperious straight drive for six and a cover-drive for a boundary by Shubman Gill were two aesthetically pleasing strokes in this period of consolidation. To give him company in the middle is another budding star - wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan. Both batsmen have reached their personal milestones - half-centuries. Left-handed Kishan has been the more rapid run-getter, striking nine fours in his innings. The target of 294 won't be too daunting unless wickets are taken. The 100-partnership is up. |
15:15 pm: Fifty for Ishan Kishan: He gets to his fifty with a cheeky tickle to the fine leg boundary but this has been an outstanding innings. Ishan has attacked both the fast bowlers and spinners and has used his feet well. India C 171/3 after 31 overs.
15:12 pm: Fifty for Shubman Gill: Brilliant controlled innings from Shubman Gill as he brings up his fifty in 63 deliveries. He will be eyeing a big one. India C 161/3 in 30 overs.
15:08 pm: Shubman Gill welcomes Mulani with a brilliant six over deep mid-wicket. Gets on his knee and slog sweeps Mulani into the stands. Class batting.
15:07 pm: Shams Mulani replaces Mohammed Siraj.
15:03 pm: Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan bring up the fifty-run partnership for the fourth wicket and both batsmen are looking in good touch. While they are milking the singles, both Gill and Kishan have been able to find the boundaries. India C 142/3 in 27.4 overs.
14:50 pm: Mohammed Siraj into the attack.
14:40 pm: Shubman Gill seems to be unaffected by the fall of the wickets at the other end. He slog sweeps Ashwin over the deep mid-wicket for a maximum. With Ishan Kishan at the other end, this partnership will be vital for India C. India C 101/3 in 21 overs.
Our correspondent, Abhishek Mukherjee, reports from Kotla: Abhinav Mukund's sprightly innings came to an end abruptly when he chopped left-arm spinner Shams Mulani on to the stumps. He had gone back in his crease to attempt to softly guide it fine past the wicketkeeper. He berates himself in agony after the dismissal, aware that he was set for a much longer, more useful innings. Abhinav had entertained briefly a little while earlier, playing his unique leg-drives and a hard sweep for boundaries. The other dismissal in this early period in India A's innings was a tame one. Ajinkya Rahane came down the track to Mumbai team-mate and seamer Dhawal Kulkarni, but mistimed his attempted drive, providing an easy catch to the bowler. |
14:32 pm: WICKET! Direct hit and Suresh Raina is run out against the run of play. Shubman Gill taps the ball to the on-side and calls for a quick single. Raina was off the blocks but slowed down as Anmolpreet Singh with a brilliant direct throw caught Raina short of his crease. India C 85/3 in 18.2 overs.
14:30 pm: Shubman Gill plays a lovely inside out shot off Ashwin and the ball races away to the fence. India C 85/2 at the end of 18 overs.
14:25 pm: Bowling change - Dinesh Karthik brings back his premier spinner Ravichandran Ashwin as he replaces Siddharth Kaul.
14:19 pm: Suresh Raina is off the mark with a single towards mid-wicket. This will be an important innings for Raina who has been out of touch. The stage is set for the southpaw to score a match-winning knock. India C 77/2 in 15.4 overs.
14:13 pm: WICKET! Played-on. Abhinav Mukund is extremely disappointed as he chops one onto his stumps. He tried to steer Shams Mulani towards third man but the ball was too close, took the inner edge of the bat to castle the stumps. Unlucky there but spinner Mulani is happy. India C 69/2 in 14.2 overs. Suresh Raina is the new man in.
14:06 pm: Shubman Gill and Abhinav Mukund have started the repair work after Rahane's departure. The duo has strung a partnership and India C will hope the pair to build on the innings. India C 61/1 after 13 overs.
13:40 pm: WICKET! There's the prized wicket. Rahane fails yet again and fails to cash in on the life he got as the skipper departs for 14. Wonderful caught and bowled by Kulkarni as he gets his Mumbai team-mate. India C 24/1.
13:32 pm: DROPPED! Siraj drops Rahane on 8. How costly is this miss going to be?
13:23 pm: Abhinav Mukund survives as Dhawal Kulkarni almost got his man. It was pitched in line, Mukund got into an awkward position as the ball hit him flush on his pads. It looked plumb but the umpire thought otherwise. Kulkarni bowls a maiden over. India C 2/0 after 2 overs.
13:16 pm: Abhinav Mukund and Ajinkya Rahane walk out for the chase and it will be Ravichandran Ashwin who will start proceedings with the ball. Rahane to take strike.
Our correspondent, Abhishek Mukherjee, reports from Kotla: Some careless strokes impeded the progress of the batting side. First, Nitish Rana fell to belligerence, attempting a mighty pull off Chahar, and failing to clear the midwicket fielder, who took a simple catch. He had a domino effect, as Dinesh Karthik, Ankit Bawne, and R. Ashwin - all potent batsmen - fell in close succession, off seemingly innocuous deliveries by Vijay Shankar. Karthik fell to Shankar's leg trap, and in the next delivery, Ankit Bawne tamely provided a catch to substitute R. Samarth in the in-field. Soon after, Ashwin executed a pull, and was caught in the deep. Kedar Jadhav added some finishing touches to the innings with his deft touches and enterprising stroke-making, hitting two fours and two sixes in his quickfire, unbeaten knock. The total is the highest in the tourney so far, on perhaps the best batting track of the three pitches. It could have been more. |
12:47 pm: Rajneesh Gurbani bowls a brilliant last over as he gives just eight runs. Kedar Jadhav playing his first match made a vital unbeaten 41 off 25 deliveries as India A post a challenging total of 293/6 at the end of 50 overs.
12:41 pm: Rajneesh Gurbani will be bowling the final over and it will be Kedar Jadhav on strike.
12:32 pm: Back to back boundaries for Kedar Jadhav and this is smart batting from the all-rounder. A tickle past short fine leg and then found the gap through backward point to put Rajneesh Gurbani under pressure. At the end of 48 overs, India A is 270/6.
12:27 pm: WICKET - R Ashwin fails to make an impact as he perishes while trying to clear the fence. Vijay Shankar once again accounted the wicket of his Tamil Nadu team-mate to pick three wickets. Ashwin made a good connection but hit it straight into the hands of Umar Nazir at deep square leg. India A 257/6 in 47 overs.
12:26 pm: 250 up for India A - Kedar Jadhav and R Ashwin bring up the 250 for India A and Jadhav will be eyeing to up the ante with little over three overs remaining.
12:18 pm: Hat-trick ball - R Ashwin manages to deny Vijay Shankar a hat-trick as he defends a length delivery.
12:16 pm: WICKET! Vijay Shankar is on a hat-trick as he removes Ankit Bawne for a duck. It was a nothing shot from Bawne as he goes for a heave but hits it straight into the hands of mid-wicket. India A 244/5 in 44.2 overs.
12:13 pm: WICKET! Vijay Shankar gets his Tamil Nadu team-mate as Dinesh Karthik falls. On the pads, Karthik steps out and flicks it straight into the hands of Suresh Raina at short fine-leg.
12:08 pm: Dinesh Karthik has taken a liking to Chahar as he smacks the spinners for three boundaries in an over. Kedar Jadhav has opened his account. India A 244/3 in 44 overs.
11:57 am: WICKET! Nitish Rana throws his wicket away as Rahul Chahar gets his man. Chahar dragged it down and Rana falls while trying to clear the deep mid-wicket boundary. Abhinav Mukund settles under the ball to take a simple catch. India A 220-3 in 42 overs.
Our correspondent, Abhishek Mukherjee, reports from Kotla: Easwaran's promising innings came to an end a bit prematurely. He added a couple of rare boundaries in his kitty, both off the bowling of Rahul Chahar in the 34th over - a firmly-hit sweep through square leg, and a tap to the third man boundary. Off fast bowler Rajneesh Gurbani in the next over, he attempted to defend a rising delivery but played on to his stumps instead. Both batsmen and bowler looked up to the heavens, for contrasting reasons. Seamers have been in operation for most of the period since, intent on bowling on a length or short-of-length. The long-on and long-off boundaries are unmanned, but without the length to play the drives, it is of little use to the batsmen. Captain Dinesh Karthik, the new batsman, and Nitish Rana, are both known for their attacking capabilities. As the partnership blossoms, they are likely to try to accelerate in the business end. Already, the intent is shown as Rana, who is set in the middle having reached his half-century, pulls offspinner Washington Sundar to the mid-wicket boundary for a six. |
11:54 am: Rana smacks Washington Sundar over the deep mid-wicket for a maximum. It was little bit short and Rana was quick to pounce on it and dispatch it over the fence. India A 211/2 in 41 overs.

Our correspondent, Abhishek Mukherjee, reports from Kotla: Anmolpreet stepped up his gear to inject some rapidity into the innings but paid the price. After striking two blows - two fierce pull shots - he jumped down the track to legspinner Chahar and inside edge him to short midwicket. Delhi's Nitish Rana, who replaced him, looked fidgety at the crease in the beginning, but has settled down nicely. Meanwhile, Abhimanyu Easwaran went smoothly along, reaching his half-century, off 84 deliveries. It's 141/1 after 29 overs. |

Our correspondent, Abhishek Mukherjee, reports from Kotla: It's a sunny start for India A at the Ferozeshah Kotla here on a cool, sunny morning. Anmolpreet Singh has been the more enterprising of the openers, while Abhimanyu Easwaran has looked serene and unhurried in the middle. There were a couple of half-shouts, an edge past second slip and an under-edge past the keeper by Anmolpreet, but barring these rare moments, the openers have been untroubled. The two have struck 10 boundaries between them, making good use of the PowerPlay. It's the first 50-plus partnership between any set of openers in the tourney. It's 78/0 in the 17th over. |
