Dhoni: 300 international matches as captain
It was Dhoni’s 189th appearance as captain in ODIs in the 273 matches he has played. Only Ponting, Fleming and Arjuna Ranatunga have captained more matches. Dhoni already holds the record of having led a country in most Twenty20 Internationals (51).

Mahendra Singh Dhoni reached another landmark in his illustrious career as he walked out to the field on Sunday at the MCG to lead his country for the 300th time. Only Ricky Ponting and Stephen Fleming have led their sides in more games.
It was Dhoni’s 189th appearance as captain in ODIs in the 273 matches he has played. Only Ponting, Fleming and Arjuna Ranatunga have captained more matches. Dhoni already holds the record of having led a country in most Twenty20 Internationals (51) and in Test cricket he captained India in 60 games.
After becoming the captain in 2007, Dhoni took India to the pinnacle in all formats of the game. He won the World T20 in his first assignment as the skipper; led the team to the number one ranking in Tests in 2010; won the world cup in 2011; and the Champions Trophy in 2013.
Dhoni is also one of the most successful captains in ODIs, having led his side to victory in 103 occasions (only Ponting (165) and Allan Border (107) have more wins).
Dhoni ended his Test career in late 2014, and finished as the most successful captain for India. Under Dhoni, India played 60 Tests, winning 27 of them.
