CAB is contemplating beginning of a club tournament involving women from this season.

On the occasion of International Women's Day, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has brought 63 women cricketers under the group health insurance cover for the first time.

“This will help them get medical facilities. This is a token of appreciation for women cricketers' contribution to cricket in general and Bengal cricket in particular,” said CAB joint secretary Avishek Dalmiya here on Thursday.

CAB is contemplating beginning of a club tournament involving women from this season. "We will send an official letter to all the clubs enquiring about their interest in participating in such a tournament. A final decision will be taken after receiving expressions of interest from the clubs," said Dalmiya.

He said trials will be held to make the talent pool of women cricketers wider.

Ace woman cricketer Jhulan Goswami appreciated CAB's initiatives. “These are very positive and encouraging steps and will go a long way in improving woman's cricket in Bengal,” she said.
