The Afghanistan World Cup cricket team poses ahead of its departure to England.

India’s dairy major, Amul, will sponsor the Afghanistan cricket team for the 2019 World Cup, which begins in England later this month.

The official announcement will be made in New Delhi next Tuesday, but Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) CEO, Asadullah Khan, has confirmed the development to Sportstar .

“Amul will be our sponsor for the World Cup. As of now, it is only for the World Cup. We will be meeting the top brass of the company next week and then talk about the future (long-term association),” Khan said.

“This is a big moment for Afghanistan cricket and we are extremely happy that Amul will sponsor us for the World Cup,” Khan said.

Ahead of the World Cup, the Afghanistan team had a 21-day preparatory camp in South Africa and the new CEO said that the team is confident of success.

“This is the first time we will play in the World Cup as a full member and the preparations are good. We hope to do well,” he said.

Afghanistan has its home bases in Greater Noida and Dehradun and the ACB plans to host the West Indies for a T20 and limited overs series in Dehradun in October.

“We will invite more teams and our aim is to have more international cricket in the future,” the CEO said.
