Bangladesh batting mainstay Shakib Al Hasan became the highest run-getter in the ongoing ICC World Cup, during his innings of 51 against Afghanistan in Southampton on Monday.

The southpaw's half-century took him to 476 runs in the tournament so far bettering David Warner's tally of 447. With Australia playing England on Tuesday, Warner has an opportunity to top the charts, dethroning Shakib.

Shakib upped the tempo even with some aggressive hitting and maintained his fine World Cup form.

When Shakib, who has two centuries in the tournament, pulled Naib to the fence, it moved him above Warner's 447 runs.

Tamim Iqbal and Shakib put on their fourth successive fifty partnership in one-day internationals.

Shakib also became the second player, after Sri Lanka's Sanath Jayasuriya, to score 1,000-plus runs and take 25-plus wickets in World Cups.

Later, Shakib was also part of another record when he along with Mushfiqur Rahim became the first pair to add 3,000 runs for Bangladesh in ODIs.

Shakib survived an LBW appeal off Afghanistan's Rashid Khan when he was on 27 and survived after taking the DRS. The ball tracking showed the ball to be missing the stumps. Bolstered by the chance, Shakib went on to become only the second player to hit six consecutive 40-plus scores in a World Cup.

Not long after that milestone, Shakib brought up his half-century in 66 balls -- his fifth score of 50 or more in this tournament -- to huge cheers from the Bangladesh fans.

Shakib later took five wickets to dent Afghanistan in its pursuit of 263.
