Australia's David Warner and Aaron Finch registered their fifth consecutive 50+ runs partnership when the duo brought up Australia's 50 in 12 overs.
It was the sixth 50+ partnership for the duo in the World Cup. The duo went on to score their individual half-centuries and added more than 100 runs for the opening wicket as England bowlers struggled to get a breakthrough.
This is the third century partnership between the duo in the ongoing World Cup.
Warner brought uo his 500th run in the ongoing edition when he nudged Adil Rashid to midwicket for a single.
In the process, the duo eclipsed the record of four half-century or more opening stands set by Grant Flower and Chris Tavare, David Boon and Geoff Marsh, Aamir Sohail and Saeed Anwar, and Adam Gilchrist and Matthew Hayden.
England vs Australia: BLOG AND SCORES
Finch started being the aggressor and then Warner soon joined in scoring as both the batsmen made merry against an England attack, which for most part of the first hour kept it a little short.
Finch survived an LBW shout and James Vince dropped a tough catch at backward point and the two chances spurred Finch to take the attack on.
Only Mark Waugh and Ricky Ponting stitched together more successive 50+ stands in World Cups -- seven between 1996 & 1999 (for the second wicket).
