Vijay Shankar's World Cup journey came to an end after a fracture to his toe.

India all-rounder Vijay Shankar on Monday was ruled out of the 2019 World Cup with a toe injury. Vijay was struck on his toe by a Jasprit Bumrah yorker, which resulted in a fracture to his left toe, rendering him unavailable for the rest of the tournament.

Last week, Vijay had shrugged off a toe injury after being hit by Bumrah during the nets, to make his World Cup debut against Afghanistan. He also played against the West Indies.

Vijay’s World Cup participation, too, had come under a cloud after he was hit on his forearm by a Khaleel Ahmed bouncer in the lead up to the warm-up games. He, however, had recovered.

Here is a timeline of injuries suffered by Vijay during his career

1. In what was his breakthrough season with the Tamil Nadu team in 2014, Vijay struggled with a groin injury and a fracture to his little finger after just one game into the season. He missed the next four games before coming up with crucial performances in the knockout games. He made scores of 111, 82, 91 and 103 in the Ranji Trophy where Tamil Nady lost in the final.

2. Vijay suffered a knee injury in 2016, a meniscus tear and a grade-four patella and had to withdraw from an India-A tour to Australia for a quadrangular List A series. He underwent a surgery and was sidelines for three months.

3. While batting in an unofficial Test against South Africa A in 2017, Vijay was forced to retire hurt after being struck on his shoulder by a bouncer. He was ruled out for the rest of the series.

4. A hamstring injury in 2018 meant he had to withdraw from India-A quadrangular series at home.
