Russell checks on Khawaja during the World Cup warm up match between Australia and West Indies.

Australia opener Usman Khawaja was sent for scans after being hit on the jaw by a bouncer from West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell during an unofficial World Cup warm up match in Southampton on Wednesday.

Khawaja had just five runs to his name when he was forced to retire hurt and did not take any further part in the match.

The 32-year-old was later cleared of any serious injury.

The Aussies won by seven wickets thanks to a 76 from the returning Steve Smith as they chased down 230 with ease.
