Indian opener Prithvi Shaw has been ruled out of the opening India vs Australia Test match in Adelaide after suffering a left ankle injury while attempting a catch at the boundary ropes in the tour game against CA XI at The Sydney Cricket Ground on Friday.
Shaw underwent scans and the reports revealed a lateral ligament injury. He will undergo an intensive rehabilitation program to hasten the recovery and be available for selection at the earliest.
Shaw was fielding on the deep midwicket boundary and rolled his ankle while trying to take a catch. He immediately knew he was in trouble and clutched his ankle in pain as the Indian physio team rushed to him.
"The medical team is assessing Prithvi Shaw at the moment. "He hurt his left ankle while attempting to take a catch at the boundary ropes. Shaw is being taken to the hospital for scans," the BCCI had earlier said in a tweet.
The injury would come as a huge blow to the Indian team as Shaw has looked in fine form, having scored a classy 66 in the first innings of the ongoing practice match. Shaw's absence will add to India's opening woes with K. L. Rahul struggling to fire so far.
