Avesh makes room and slices it over point and takes a double. Samson still at the non-striker’s end. Will remain there as Rabada bowls a bouncer which goes into de Kock’s gloves. OUT! Avesh goes for a big hit, gets a top edge and Bavuma takes a simple catch at cover. With the new rules in place, Samson will stay at the non-striker’s end and the new batter will face the next ball even if Samson and Avesh crossed each other before the catch was completed. NO BALL!!! A repeat of the previous ball as Bishnoi provides a catch to Bavuma but Rabada has overstepped. FOUR! A boundary in the third man region for Bishnoi.

IND 213/7 after 38 overs: Ngidi begins with a wide. FOUR! Full toss on the pads and Samson guides it past short fine leg for a boundary. Samson hits one down to wide long on and takes a single. OUT!!! Thakur goes for another big hit but Maharaj takes a brilliant catch at mid off. Thakur goes for 33. Kuldeep Yadav is the next man in and he will be on strike. OUT!!! Slower one from Ngidi, Kuldeep chips one and Bavuma, running backwards at cover, takes a stunning catch. Ngidi on a hat-trick. Short ball from Ngidi and Avesh Khan tucks it away into the leg side for a single. Samson on strike for final ball. Wide from Ngidi. Extra run for India. A dot ball to finish the over.

IND 205/5 after 37 overs: Rabada to bowl two of the last four overs. FOUR! Thakur welcomes him with a pull that goes past mid off. Slow and wide from Rabada, Thakur cuts it hard and picks up a single. Samson takes a single and gives strike back to Thakur. FOUR!!! Thakur anticipates the length and scoops it over the keeper’s head for a boundary. FOUR!! Thakur ends the over the way he began. Another pull for four in the long off region.

IND 191/5 after 36 overs: Shamsi back to bowl his penultimate over. FIFTY! Samson nudges one into the leg side to complete his second career half century. FOUR!!! Samson steps down the pitch and hits one wide off a diving long on fielder to find a timely boundary. FOUR!!! Short from Shamsi, Samson steps back and pulls it hard for another boundary. Fourteen from the over.

IND 177/5 after 35 overs: Ngidi to bowl his seventh over. India needs to hit big now. SIX!!! Too short and Samson deposits it over deep midwicket into the stands. Eight from it.

IND 169/5 after 34 overs: Maharaj comes to bowl his final over. Gives just five runs. Brilliant figures: 8-1-23-1.

IND 164/5 after 33 overs: Final powerplay. One more fielder outside the circle is allowed. Tough ask for India. Parnell to bowl his last over. FOUR!!! Short length and Samson pulls it to wide long on for a boundary. FOUR!!! Short and wide with lots of pace, Samson guides it down to third man for another four. Ten from the over.

IND 154/5 after 32 overs: Shamsi back for another over. Another LBW appeal from the Proteas, umpire says no and they don’t have a review left. Six from the over.

IND 148/5 after 31 overs: Just three runs from Parnell’s over.

IND 145/5 after 30 overs: Shamsi sprays one way down the leg side, Samson and Thakur steal a couple as the short leg fielder chases the ball. FOUR! Samson steps up and manages to beat Parnell at mid-off. South Africa has wasted two reviews in the same over, challenging not out decisions for LBW appeals against Samson and Thakur.

IND 136/5 after 29 overs: Rabada is back for his second spell and starts off with a no ball. However, Samson can only take a single off the free hit. Five from the over.

IND 131/5 after 28 overs: Shamsi is back for his fourth over. FOUR! Short ball, Thakur adjusts his feet and pulls one hard into the deep square leg side boundary. Nine off the over.

IND 122/5 after 27 overs: Three dot balls, Iyer feels the pressure and goes for a pull but only finds Rabada at mid on. Ngidi gets his first wicket. Iyer departs for 50. Shardul Thakur is the next man in. FOUR! Ngidi sprays the final ball down the leg side and Thakur gets a faint touch on it.

IND 118/4 after 26 overs: FOUR! Slightly short from Maharaj and Iyer plays a delicate cut that goes all the way to the fence. FIFTY! Iyer plays one nicely down the ground and takes a single to complete his half century.

IND 112/4 after 25 overs: Short and into the body from Ngidi, Samson pulls it and picks up a couple. Six from the over.

IND 106/4 after 24 overs: Maiden over from Maharaj to Samson. Excellent stuff from the off-spinner.

IND 106/4 after 23 overs: Ngidi back into the attack. FOUR!! Iyer goes hard on a short and wide ball, gets a thick outside edge which goes wide of first slip. FOUR!!! Iyer in full flow now. Sprayed down the leg side by Ngidi and Iyer flicks it to deep backward square leg for a boundary. Eleven off the over.

IND 95/4 after 22 overs: One double and three singles from Parnell’s over.

IND 90/4 after 21 overs: Another expensive over from Shamsi. Iyer hits three consecutive fours to finish the over.

IND 76/4 after 20 overs: Parnell back for second spell. FOUR! Parnell sends one wide, Iyer goes with an angled bat and gets an inside edge that goes to the boundary. Ten off the over.

IND 66/4 after 19 overs:FOUR! Iyer gets one in his arc from Shamsi and plays it down the ground for a boundary. Two wides, a double and a single. SIX! Samson gets off the mark in style as he dispatches one wide over long on into the stands.

IND 51/4 after 18 overs: Maharaj to bowl his fifth over. Has conceded only 10 runs so far. OUT! Kishan steps out, ball turns in sharply, deflects off Kishan’s glove and Malan takes a simple catch at leg slip. Kishan departs for 20. Next batter in is Sanju Samson. Ball turns in and straightens to hit Samson on the pad and umpires gives him out LBW only to see the decision overturned after a successful DRS from the batter. There was an inside edge.

IND 49/3 after 17 overs: Spin from the other end as well. Chinaman Tabraiz Shamsi into the attack. OUT! Gaikwad steps out to go over mid on, gets beaten in the flight and de Kock does the rest. Gaikwad departs for 19 on debut. Instant success for Shamsi and more trouble for the men in blue. Shreyas Iyer is the next batter in. Three from the over and a wicket.

IND 46/2 after 16 overs: Just one from Maharaj’s over.

IND 45/2 after 15 overs: FOUR! Short and wide ball from Ngidi and Gaikwad cuts it over point for a boundary to break the shackles. Next one on the pads and Gaikwad nudges it for an easy single. FOUR! Kishan joins the party as he cuts one past point. MISSED RUN OUT!! Kishan tucks one and calls for a quick single before sending Gaikwad back who was almost halfway across the pitch. However, the fielder is unable to execute a direct hit. Nine off the over.

IND 36/2 after 14 overs: Two singles off left-arm spinner Maharaj’s third over. Time for drinks break.

IND 34/2 after 13 overs: Four off Ngidi’s second over. Required rate goes past eight.

IND 30/2 after 12 overs: Maharaj and Ngidi introduced into the attack and keep things tight. A lot of turn on offer for Maharaj.

IND 21/2 after 9 overs: Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ishan Kishan have started the rebuilding work and it will be interesting to see how they approach the run chase. Kagiso Rabada has been terrific with the new ball and has given just 10 runs in his five overs. Chance for both Ruturaj and Ishan to do something special.

IND 8/2 after 5 overs: Two back-to-back maidens and India reeling under serious pressure as skipper Dhawan departs. Not a single run has been scored since the last 20 balls and this is quality fast bowling from Wayne Parnell and Kagiso Rabada. The required rate has climbed to 7.1 runs per over and the current rate is just 1.45. That speaks volumes about how India has approached the chase. South Africa right on top.

IND 8/1 after 3 overs: Shubman Gill falls as Kagiso Rabada strikes. An inside edge and Gill will not be happy with the shot selection. The ball nipped back in and Gill went with the drive only to get an inside edge. India needed a good start in a tall chase of 250 but Rabada has given South Africa an early breakthrough. India in early trouble in chase of 250.

Right then Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill are out in the middle and it will be Kagiso Rabada with the new ball. Here we go!

End of Innings: SA 249/4 after 40 overs: David Miller and Heinrich Klaasen tore apart the inexperienced Indian bowling line-up as they looted 59 runs in the last five overs with an unbeaten 139-run partnership off just 106 balls. It’s not an easy batting track where the ball will come onto the bat and India failed to dislodge the partnership. This is a massive score and South African bowlers have got the total to defend. Over to the Indian batsmen.

SA 215/4 after 37 overs: The 100-run partnership between Klaasen and Miller is up and what a fine stand this has been for South Africa. On a wicket, slightly difficult for strokeplay, both Miller and Klaasen hit half-centuries and pushed India on the backfoot. 18 ball remaining and both batsmen will go for the kill.

SA 195/4 after 35 overs: Shardul comes back to finish his spell. FOUR! Short one from the right-arm pacer but does not rise enough, quick pull from Miller and a diving Ruturaj Gaikwad is unable to stop the ball from crossing the boundary rope. A tidy over otherwise as eight come from it.

SA 187/4 after 34 overs: Avesh Khan begins his sixth over. Three singles off it.

SA 184/4 after 33 overs: Final powerplay begins. India allowed to have one extra fielder outside the 30-yard circle. Kuldeep to bowl his final over. Three singles and a double off it. Kuldeep ends his quota with figures of 1 for 39.

SA 179/4 after 32 overs: Siraj from the other end. Bowls one on the pads, Miller flicks it perfectly to pick up a couple while Gaikwad stops the ball wide of mid-wicket. Six from it.

SA 173/4 after 31 overs: Shardul Thakur back into the attack. The right-arm medium pacer has been the pick of the bowlers today. Keeps things tight, giving five off five, before bowling one down the leg side and conceding a cheap boundary.

Last 10 overs now.

SA 164/4 after 30 overs: Kuldeep carries on from the other end. SIX! Overpitched from Kuldeep and Klaasen smashes it over deep extra cover for a maximum. Nine from the over.

SA 155/4 after 29 overs: Bishnoi continues. Slightly short pitched from the leg-spinner, Miller stays back and cuts it hard. Excellent running from Miller and Klaasen to pick three runs. FOUR! Short ball from Bishnoi, Klaasen stays back and pulls it between deep mid-wicket and square leg for a boundary. Nine from it.

SA 146/4 after 28 overs: An economical over from Kuldeep. Just one from it.

SA 145/4 after 27 overs:DROPPED! Miller goes for a big hit on the last ball of Bishnoi’s over but gets a top edge, Avesh comes in from the deep while Dhawan makes a run from extra cover. Avesh stops, Dhawan dives but the ball lands safely on the ground. Seven off the over.

SA 134/4 after 25 overs: David Miller and Heinrich Klaasen have upped the ante as the last five overs yielded 42 runs for the loss of one wicket. Kuldeep Yadav is getting the ball to turn and bounce but Bishnoi is struggling as he has leaked 46 runs in his five overs. South Africa is ready for the late surge and this partnership will be key for them. India needs wickets to stop Miller from going on a rampage.

SA 116/4 after 23 overs: Ravi Bishnoi strikes and he takes his maiden ODI wicket by trapping Quinton de Kock, who falls for a well-made 54-ball 48. The left-hander went for a reverse sweep only to miss the ball and that looked plumb. South Africa review but lose it and are four wickets down.

SA 92/3 after 20 overs: Quinton de Kock is motoring on nicely and is nearing his half-century in the company of Henrich Klaasen and he is looking in solid touch. Kuldeep is bowling with a lot of confidence but Avesh Khan has struggled with his line and length. South Africa gaining momentum after suffering a double blow.

SA 74/3 after 17 overs: Kuldeep Yadav strikes as the chinaman rips one and that’s the classical leg-spinner that crashes through the defence of Aiden Markram. That will boost a lot of confidence as the ball spins back after slightly leaving the batsman and sneaks between the bat and pad to clip the top of the off-stump. This was a special delivery from Kuldeep and the crowd has found its voice. South Africa three down and in trouble.

SA 70/2 after 15 overs: Shardul Thakur strikes and he castles Temba Bavuma to give India the second breakthrough. A huge gap between the gap and the pad and Bavuma’s poor run with the bat continues. Meanwhile, Ravi Bishnoi has been expensive on his debut as the leg-spinner has already leaked 31 runs from his three overs, going over 10 runs per over. There isn’t much turn in the surface but Bishnoi is looking a bit short on confidence.

SA 49/1 after 13 overs: Wicket-Maiden for Shardul Thakur. Shardul strikes and India has got the breakthrough. Soft dismissal as Malan chips it to mid-wicket where Shreyas Iyer times his jump to perfection to take an easy catch. It was important for India to strike as the partnership was growing with both batsmen getting set in the middle. Temba Bavuma walks into the middle with a fired-up Shardul sensing an opportunity to pick his second wicket with the South African skipper not in good touch.

SA 41/0 after 10 overs: Shubman Gill drops a sitter and hands Malan a life as Shardul Thakur thought he had immediate success after being introduced into the attack. De Kock, meanwhile, welcomes Ravi Bishnoi, who is making his ODI debut with a couple of boundaries and the southpaw has decided to break away from the shackles. South Africa is off to a good start in testing conditions. India had an opportunity but they will look to pick wickets and break this partnership.

SA 28/0 after 8 overs: India’s search for a breakthrough continues but they have managed to keep the South African openers quiet. Siraj in particular has looked threatening with the new ball, mixing his deliveries well and cranking up the pace with an occassional bumper. A wicket is round the corner.

SA 20/0 after 6 overs: Avesh Khan and Mohammed Siraj have been relentless in helpful bowling conditions in Lucknow but both the South African openers have been very watchful. The lines have been excellent from the Indian fast bowlers and they have induced a couple of inside edges but have been unlucky to knock off the stumps. The lights are on and India will be eyeing an early breakthrough in overcast conditions.

SA 13/0 after 4 overs: Avesh Khan partners Mohammed Siraj and the duo are steaming in with the pitch offering some movement as there is a bit of moisture with the rain around. Although the Indian new ball bowlers are threatening, Malan with a lovely drive, on the up, through the covers has got things underway for South Africa. Even Quinton de Kock exhibited a lovely drive as both openers have a boundary each to their name. India is in search of an early breakthrough.

SA 2/0 after 1 over: Top start from Siraj as he almost had Malan trapped in front. India went for the review but it was umpire’s call and the ball was pitching outside off but was clipping the top of the off-stump. India won’t lose a review but that’s a jaffa from the speedster. Malan is off the mark and so as South Africa. In other news, South Africa all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius has been ruled out of the three-match ODI series against India and the proceeding ICC Men’s T20 World Cup due to a fracture of his left thumb.

Right then we are all set for the first ODI and out walk the South African openers - Janneman Malan along with Quinton de Kock and it will be Mohammed Siraj with the new ball. Here we go!
