Alastair Cook... in elite club.

Alastair Cook entered the record books on Friday when he became the first English player to score 11000 runs in Test cricket.

One of the most decorated cricketers, Cook has already figured in more Tests (140) and scored more centuries (30) than any other player for England.

Cook became the 10th player in Test cricket to cross the 11000-mark. He is the eighth fastest, taking 252 innings to reach the milestone. However, it took him only 10 years and nine months compared to Kumar Sangakkara’s 13 years and six months, which was the lowest time taken before the England captain accomplished the feat in the fifth and final Test against India in Chennai.

Cook is the fifth left-handed batsman to enter the club after Allan Border, Brian Lara, Sangakkara and Shivnarine Chanderpaul.

Sachin Tendulkar leads the list with 15921 runs from 200 Tests. Ricky Ponting succeeds him at second position with 13378 runs from 168 Tests.
