Cheteshwar Pujara was dismissed by Jake Ball on the second delivery of the day.
That meant Captain Kohli came to the crease, and had a solid 116-run partnership with Murali Vijay.
Murali Vijay scored a brilliant 136 off 286 balls to get India on top.
But then India lost a few wickets in the middle, Joe Root took two quick wickets to bring England back in the game.
That didn't stop Kohli, as he continued to pile on the runs and reach his hundred. On the way, he passed another milestone as he completed 4000 runs in Test cricket.
Jayant Yadav again impressed with his temperament, him and Kohli stitched together an impressive unbeaten 87-run partnership.
Alaistair Cook was cut to a frustrated figure by the end of day's play as India reached 451/7 to lead England by 51 runs.
