Virat Kohli after reaching his century in Centurion on Monday.

As he hammered a century at the Centurion on Monday morning, Virat Kohli achieved a new record. With this, he became the second Indian captain to score a century in South Africa in Test cricket. All this while, Sachin Tendulkar was the only Indian captain to have scored a century in South Africa in the longer format. He amassed 169 runs as an Indian captain in the second innings at Cape Town in 1997.

With a ton coming his way, Kohli also posted the highest score by a visiting captain at Centurion. In Tests, Mahendra Singh Dhoni previously held this record—scoring 90 in 2010.

This also helped Kohli top the charts as the most overseas centuries by Indian captains in International cricket. He now has 13 tons, followed by Sourav Ganguly at 12. Mohammed Azharuddin has eight tons, while Tendulkar has seven.
