Dhawan: ‘We will try to keep the basics right’

Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan said his team is used to the pressure factor and will give its best in the decider against Sri Lanka in the series decider on Sunday.
“We are a strong side with a lot of depth in batting and bowling. Will try to do the basics right tomorrow,” he said before the team’s practice session on Saturday.
On how he looked at India's dismal batting show in bowler- friendly conditions in the first one-dayer in Dharamshala, Dhawan said it was also a learning experience.

“If you at look at Mohali second one-dayer, even that pitch was not easy to bat on though the ball was not seaming around as much as in Dharamshala. The ball was not coming on to the bat and we took the pressure off in the first 10 overs. And, we came back strongly as a unit, gave our best. So, we all keep learning,” he said.
On the Lankan bowling attack, Dhawan said they would also have learnt from the Mohali game.
“Yes when we attack, you all know the calibre of our batsmen who can demolish any side. Quite naturally, Lankans will have some plans for us and come back with better mindset. And, we have for them too,” he said.
On partnering Rohit Sharma with whom he put on 12 century stands in ODIs and his captaincy, Dhawan said Rohit is the best opener who keeps the basics simple as a batsman and as a captain too. "Even before he became a captain, I know him will for so long and his character. We all know what our job is and I repeat will always try to give our best,” he said.
On whether the spinners will play a bigger role here, Dhawan says it depends on what kind of pitch will be there on Sunday.
“Personally, I love to play in this city where I have done well in the Deodhar Trophy this March to come back into Indian team and have been doing well since then in international cricket. So, hope to do well tomorrow also,” he said.
