A newcomer into the team, Samarawickrama has been fielding in the close-in catching positions during the ongoing Test series. On day one of the Delhi Test, Sadeera was hit on the crown of his helmet by a sweep shot from India opener Murali Vijay while he was fielding at short-leg.

A Sri Lanka team official, speaking to the reporters after the day’s play, said, “Samarawickrama has undergone CT scans and we are still to evaluate if he further take part in the ongoing Test.

"He is out of danger,” the official added.

What’s worth pointing out is that this is the second time Samarawickrama has been on the receiving end of a Murali Vijay sweep, having suffered a blow in Nagpur as well.
