Indian women’s team to hire bowling coach

The BCCI plans to invite applications for the position “soon.”

International experience is not necessary to assume the role of bowling coach.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has invited applications for the role of bowling coach for the Indian women’s team.

The players get batting inputs from head coach Tushar Arothe, a former Baroda all-rounder who possesses 6,105 first-class career runs and 225 wickets. Biju George is the current fielding coach.

A senior BCCI official told

PTI , “The women’s team management has expressed the need of a bowling coach. We will soon start the hunt for a suitable candidate by inviting applications.”

For the position, the candidates need not have an international background. “Even Tushar has not played for India so that really is not a factor,” the official added.

Mixed run

The women’s team for the upcoming Asia Cup will be announced later this week, the official confirmed.

The team has had a mixed run overall since making the World Cup final in England last year. It beat host South Africa in its ICC One-Day International (ODI) Championship opener before being annihilated by Australia at home .

It also failed to make the final at home in the recent T20 tri-series involving Australia and England.

India, however, restored some pride by beating England 2-1 in a three-match ODI series .
