Manish Pandey, the India A captain, scored an unbeaten 111 to lead his team to a five-wicket win in the second one-dayer against New Zealand A at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on Sunday. India now has a 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

Chasing 300, India was helped by contributions from Shreyas Iyer and Vijay Shankar, both of whom scored half-centuries, besides Pandey. The team reached its target with an over to spare.

Anchor role

India A openers Shubman Gill (25) and Mayank Agarwal (25) got starts but failed to convert them into big scores for the second innings in a row. Shreyas and Pandey then shared a 90-run partnership for the third wicket. After Shreyas fell, Pandey stitched a 123-run stand with Vijay to ensure the win.

Will Young (102) and George Worker (99) were the chief architects of New Zealand A’s competitive 299 for eight.

The final one-dayer will be played at the same venue on Tuesday.
