Ben Stokes walks off during England's second Test against Pakistan in Manchester.

Ben Stokes will miss the third Test against Pakistan after injuring his calf during England's victory at Old Trafford on Monday.

The all-rounder pulled up early in his sixth over of Pakistan's second innings with a problem in his right leg, and left the field immediately as a precaution.

Stokes did not return as Alastair Cook's side wrapped up a 330-run victory to level the series, and he then underwent MRI scans to determine the extent of his injury.

Unfortunately for Stokes – who missed much of the Sri Lanka series after knee surgery – the scan revealed he had torn his muscle.

England's medical team will continue to assess Stokes during the third Test at Edgbaston, starting next Wednesday.

England squad for third Test:  Alastair Cook (captain), Moeen Ali, James Anderson, Jonny Bairstow, Gary Ballance, Jake Ball, Stuart Broad, Steven Finn, Alex Hales, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, James Vince, Chris Woakes.
