SRH vs DC: Morris, Rabada shine as Delhi beats Hyderabad by 39 runs

Chris Morris and Kagiso Rabada helped Delhi Capitals stage a comeback to hand Sunrisers Hyderabad its third consecutive loss.

Delhi Capitals will be looking for capital gains from its top order when it takes on Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday night.

Delhi Capitals bounce back from nowhere to beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 39 runs.

 

SRH 116, 18.5 overs: Stands emptying at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium as all the orange turns a shade paler. Rabada calls for it as Bhuvneshwar has sliced it to the sky. This will be the Sunrisers third consecutive defeat as things look out of bounds now. And as I type, Khaleel, the new man in has been castled.

◘ SRH 112/8, after 18 overs: Abhishek Sharma goes now. Skies it after the ball finds the toe-end of his bat. Morris magic at Hyderabad! Keemo Paul is everywhere. At mid-off now he takes another easy catch.

◘ SRH 110/7, after 17.3 overs: Chris Morris on a hat-trick now! The Proteas in this game are having a party! Deep midwicket fielder Keemo Paul makes no mistake as he comfortably pouches one to remove Rashid Khan.

◘ SRH 110/6, after 17.2 overs: And another one bites the dust! Deepak Hooda leaves the pitch now, yorked by the experienced Chris Morris.

◘ SRH 106/4, after 16.3 overs: Back-to-back wickets! Vijay Shankar goes now. Goes for a pull on the shorter one from Rabada and he has edged it. The ball goes up high to land in Pant's gloves. Freebie!

◘ SRH 106/4, after 16.2 overs: NOT THIS TIME! BIG, BIG WICKET! Kagiso Rabada employs the slower delivery to get rid of Warner. Things looking difficult for SRH now. Warner doesn't get much wood on to that shot and Shreyas Iyer at long-off wasn't going to miss a sitter.

◘ SRH 104/3, after 16 overs: Sunrisers needs a big over now. 52 off 24 balls is what is required. Meanwhile, there was a missed chance again in the last over when Warner again edged a 96 kmph delivery but the ball was so slow that it dropped short of Pant.

◘ SRH 101/3, after 15.2 overs: Ricky Bhui struggling with the track slowing down misjudges the pace on that one and ends up miscuing it to Axar Patel. Keemo Paul, meanwhile, gets his third wicket.

100 comes up for Sunrisers Hyderabad off 15 overs.

◘ SRH 97/2, after 14.2 overs: DROPPED! David Warner gets a lifeline as he hit it down, hard and straight at Amit Mishra who let the ball burst through his fingers. UNLUCKY!

◘ SRH 95/2, after 14 overs: Warner marches on. He has raced to 42 off 36 balls and holds key to this run chase. Hyderabad needs 61 in 36 balls.

◘ SRH 78/2, after 11.4 overs: A top-spinner gets Williamson. He balloons it to mid-off, Rabada again, who takes a wonderful catch diving to his front.

◘ SRH 77/1, after 11 overs: Four runs off that over from Amit Mishra. Mishra is constantly tossing it up to the batsman as if he wants them to come out and have a go at him. Will the luring work?

◘ SRH 72/1, after 9.5 overs: Jonny Bairstow departs! Keemo Paul lures him to play one wide outside off stump. The Englishman swings his bat only to find Rabada at long-off.

◘ SRH 66/0, after 9 overs: Easy pickings for the SRH openers. A little surprise as to why Amit Mishra was not given the ball. He would have got the ball to spin away from Warner. Could have been helpful in bagging early wickets as well.

◘ SRH 51/0, after 8 overs: Bairstow finding it difficult to counter the slower delivery from Keemo Paul. Three runs off that over.

◘ SRH 48/0, after 7 overs: Jonny Bairstow gets a boundary as he tries to cut one down the first slip region. Axar Patel bowling it full and straight to avoid giving the batsmen room for big shots.

Delhi will play spin now. Axar Patel with the ball.

◘ SRH 40/0, after 6 overs: End of Powerplay: Kagiso Rabada welcomed by the Hyderabad crowd with loud cheers. Four runs come from that over. Rabada is bowling at some earth-shattering pace. The penultimate delivery notched 152 kmph.

◘ SRH 36/0 after 5 overs: Ishant Sharma bowls another decent over as he restricts the ball to the middle and off stump line. Doesn't allow the batsmen to free their arms.

Delhi looking pretty tight on the field tonight.

◘ SRH 30/0, after 4 overs: Chris Morris has been introduced into the attack. Bairstow bludgeons him for a six, straight and clean into the sightscreen off the fourth ball. A decent over from Morris otherwise.

◘ SRH 23/0, after 3 overs: Ishant is turning on the pace engine now. 148 showed the giant screen after the first ball of the third over. The next ball, he resorts to the slower one and it is quite outside off. Bairstow punishes him. Boundary it is!

◘ SRH 13/0, after 2 overs: Woah! Half a chance there. After Warner smashes a 150+ bullet from Kagiso Rabada to the fence, the next ball finds the tow end of the bat and Rabada dives to his left. A wonderful effort but in vain!

A ball later, a shorter one from Rabada gets flicked by Bairstow towards the deep square leg boundary.

◘ SRH 3/0, after 1 over : How quick are David Warner and Jonny Bairstow between the wickets? They effectively convert a single to double.

A good first over from Ishant Sharma comes to an end.

Ishant Sharma has been handed the ball. Delhi Capitals would need him replicating his Eden Gardens performance tonight.

 

Sunrisers Hyderabad pulls back things in the last five overs to restrict Delhi Capitals to 155/7.

 

◘ DC 155/7, after 20 overs: Williamson does an Ashwin as he posts just three fielders in the ring. A no ball is given and Axar manages a single off the Free Hit.

Keemo Paul leaves the field, victim to a yorker from Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Trapped in front!

◘ DC 142/6, after 19 overs: The over finally sees a boundary. Sandeep Sharma comes back strongly with some full length deliveries to give just nine runs off the penultimate over.

◘ DC 133/6, after 18 overs: Close! Axar Patel almost gives away his defence as he plays Rashid late. And Bairstow drops one now. 

But how long can you keep Rashid Khan away from taking wickets? The last ball of the 18th over sees Morris walk as Rashid gets his off-stump. Bowled!

◘ DC 127/5, after 16.2 overs: A yorker from Khaleel Ahmed does the trick! The left-arm pacer gets his third as Pant balloons it, one-handed shot,  to the long-on fielder Deepak Hooda.

Khaleel Ahmed has come in to bowl his fourth over.

#StatAttack: Delhi Capitals has lost three wickets on an average, between overs 17-20 in IPL 2019.

 

◘ DC 126/4 after 16 overs: The extra pace and bounce off Bhuvneshwar's third ball takes Shreyas Iyer by surprise. And not long after that, Iyer is seen taking the long walk back to the pavilion. This is Bhuvneshwar's 100th wicket for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Another short one, and Shreyas has edged it to Bairstow. FOW: 125/4 after 15.5 overs.

◘ DC 114/3 after 14 overs: Relief for the Sunrisers Hyderabad! Rashid Khan bowls a tight over, trying a handful of variations to concede just four runs.

◘ DC 110/3 after 13 overs: Sandeep Sharma bowls a decent over except for a poor fielding effort in the deep by Rashid Khan which goes for a boundary.

◘ DC 87/3 after 10 overs: Rashid Khan leaks ten runs in his first over. The flighted delivery doesn't work and Pant and Iyer join hands to smash him for two boundaries each.

◘ OUT! The 18-year-old Abhishek Sharma has removed Colin Munro (40 off 24 balls) just when he was looking good. Sharma bowls a leg-break with a hint of back spin on it. The ball sails wide and Munro who was trying to slice it across has edged it to the keeper. This is the youngster's first IPL wicket. DC 69/3, 8 overs.

◘  DC 59/2 after 7 overs: Deepak Hooda concedes eight runs. The fourth ball was sliced by Shreyas Iyer beautifully to the point boundary.

◘ SIX! Colin Munro dances down the pitch and whacks Khaleel's good-length delivery for a 75-metre six over the mid-wicket. Sunrisers needs to get him out early.

◘ Bhuvneshwar is back in the attack. He hits the right areas and gets an edge off  the final ball of the fifth over but like many other deliveries in this innings, it runs away for a four in the third-man.

◘ Munro hits Khaleel for a six and a four as DC finishes the fourth over at 30/2.

◘ Khaleel strikes again! A short ball is not dealt wisely by Shikhar Dhawan as he gets top-edge which flies towards Bhuvneshwar Kumar at deep fine-leg who fumbles at first but laps up the ball immediately. DC 20/2, 3.2 Overs

◘ FOUR! Sharma bowls a half-volley on the off stump and Munro puts it away through the covers. Rashid Khan sprints from the edge of the circle but he is unable to prevent it from touching the rope. DC 20/1, 3 Overs.

◘ Now it is Sandeep Sharma in the attack for the third over. There is a clear evidence of swing with the new ball as new batsman Colin Munro edges one off Sharma. The ball is out of Bairstow's reach and runs away to the boundary.

◘ GONE! Khaleel Ahmed is hit for another three runs by Shikhar Dhawan off the first ball of the second over, but the left-armer gets an outside edge off Prithvi Shaw off the fourth ball to land safely for a Jonny Bairstow catch. DC 12/1, 2 Overs.

◘ Bhuvneshwar makes a good comeback and bowls three dot balls in a row. DC 7/0, 1 Over.

◘ FOUR! Tough luck Bhuvneshwar! A beautiful inswinger takes an thick edge off Shikhar Dhawan and runs away to the Third-man boundary.

◘ Shaw is off! He picks Bhuvneshwar's first ball off the pads and works it away on the leg-side. Rashid Khan does well near the boundary but Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan runs three.

Shreyas Iyer:  I am really happy. Boys need to be consistent as well. We just need to believe in our abilities. Whoever gets going has to see it off. Two changes. Ingram has gone off to see his baby and Munro is in . Amit Mishra comes in and Tewatia is out . Kane Williamson:  We are gonna have a bowl. Usually a good surface. Two string teams and looking forward to a good contest. Initially, it was about recovering. We always enjoy playing here. We have a number of changes. Four of them. I am in for Nabi and three other changes as well.

Delhi Capitals would be looking to carry on the momentum from its clash against Kolkata Knight Riders when it visits Sunrisers Hyderabad. On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad would look to make it 2/2 in front of its home crowd.

In-form, confident Delhi Capitals takes on Sunrisers Hyderabad

Delhi Capitals  will be looking for capital gains from its top order which is dubbed as the future of the Indian line-up itself — including Prithvi Shaw, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant — when it takes on  Sunrisers Hyderabad  here on Sunday night.

The line-up also includes the seasoned Shikhar Dhawan, who regained his wonted form against Kolkata Knight Riders in  the side’s previous contest  on Friday.

With the race for qualifiers reaching the half-way stage, these batsmen should score big if Capitals is to challenge a team that has lost the last two games and is keen to avoid a hat-trick of defeats. The young guns of Capitals need not look too far for inspiration than Ricky Ponting, the head coach, and Sourav Ganguly, the advisor, to sustain its winning momentum.

In bowling, Capitals sports a settled look, too. The fast bowling department is manned by the likes of the fiery Kagiso Rabada, Chris Morris, Trent Boult and Ishant Sharma, and spin by the experienced legspinner Amit Mishra (who might be preferred on Sunday) and left-arm spinner Axar Patel.

Williamson in for Nabi?

On the other hand, Sunrisers, playing its 100th match in the  IPL,  will definitely want it to be a memorable one. It will be interesting to see whether captain Kane Williamson, who was rested to recover from a shoulder injury in the previous games, shores up the batting, with the think-tank leaving out Mohammad Nabi on Sunday. For, on form, it is unlikely that the explosive, settled opening pair of David Warner and Jonny Bairstow, which put on a record three century partnerships in this edition, will be disturbed. After all, the latter doubles up as a wicketkeeper, too.

Strangely, Sunrisers’ bowling unit has taken some beating so far, and is not the feared attack it once was any more. Stand-by captain and pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been inconsistent in the death overs which is compounding the team’s woes. His new-ball partners Sandeep Sharma and Siddharth Kaul, too, have also been expensive, and it was left to the reliable spin duo of Afghans — off-spinner Nabi and leg-spinner Rashid Khan — to raise the bar.

This apart, Sunday’s contest might also witness an exciting contest within a battle between Warner and Rabada, Dhawan and his former team-mate Bhuvneshwar, and Rishabh Pant and Rashid Khan.
