In his absence, Charu Sharma took over the reigns and conducted the opening day of the auction.
Sources in the know told Sportstar that Edmeades suddenly fained and was attended to by the medical team. He is fine now. "Since the doctors are monitoring him, it has been decided to bring in Charu Sharma as an alternative. Charu has previous experience of holding auctions across disciplines," a BCCI official said.
An independent fine art, classic car and charity auctioneer, Edmeades was associated with the iconic Christie’s for 38 years before going independent in 2016.
In December 2018, when Edmeades travelled to Jaipur for the IPL auction, it was a new experience for him. Even though he had conducted more than 2,500 auctions across the globe by then, it was his first stint with Indian cricket.
Four years later, as the 10 franchises geared up for the IPL mega-auction over the weekend, Edmeades - the gavel master - was also excited. But according to a statement by the BCCI, Edmeades had a fall due to postural hypotension and was being monitored by the medical team.
