IPL auctions: No takers for Gayle, Steyn, Guptill

Chris Gayle, who remained unsold in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auctions, finally found a taker in Kings XI Punjab, which brought him on board for Rs 2 crore--his base price.

After being unsold initially in 2011, Gayle was roped in by Royal Challengers Bangalore after Dirk Nannes suffered an injury.

Chris Gayle remained unsold in the Indian Premier League (IPL) even on Sunday. The big-hitting West Indies batsman, who found no takers on the first day, was once again put up for auction on the second day. But that could not change his fortunes as none of the franchises showed interest in the West Indies batsman, who had set a base price of Rs 2 crore.

The West Indies star batsman had previously played for Royal Challengers Bangalore, and was one of the major batsmen for the side. This is, however, not the first time that Gayle went unsold in the auctions. After being unsold initially in 2011, Gayle was roped in by Royal Challengers Bangalore after Dirk Nannes suffered an injury.

There was no looking back since.

The West Indies batsman holds the record of hitting the most number of sixes in IPL history to his name — 265. He also has five hundreds, the most by any batsman, in nine seasons of the T20 competiton. In 101 matches, Gayle has scored 3626 runs with an average of 41.20.

It was, however, not just Gayle. Some of the big names like Dale Steyn, Martin Guptill, Shaun Marsh and Corey Anderson too found no takers.
