The International Cricket Council has handed left-arm seamer Khaleel Ahmed a demerit point and an official warning for a breach of the ICC Code of Conduct during the fourth One-Day International between India and Windies at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.

Khaleel had charged aggressively at Windies batsman Marlon Samuels after dismissing him, an act “which, in the view of the on-field umpires, could have provoked a reaction” from Samuels, according to a communique issued by the ICC on Tuesday.

Khaleel’s provocation constituted a Level 1 offence of the Code of Conduct. The charge was levelled by on-field umpires Ian Gould and Anil Chaudhary, third umpire Paul Wilson, as well as fourth umpire Chettithody Shamshuddin.

The 20-year-old Khaleel, playing his fifth ODI, claimed three for 13 to help India win the contest by 224 runs and take a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.

The accumulation of four or more demerit points in a 24-month period constitutes grounds for an official ban.
