Lyon missed a hat-trick but picked up Asad Shafiq and Babar Azam in the second and the fourth delivery of his fifth over, leaving Pakistan in tatters.

Lyon caught Ali off his own bowling, Sohail (dismissed for a duck) tested Travis Head’s reflexes at silly point, Marnus Labuschagne caught Shafiq at short leg and Azam was bowled.

Pakistan took lunch at 77-5 with Lyon returning with magical figures of 7-4-12-4.

This is also the first time that a side lost five wickets before lunch on the first day of a Test match in Abu Dhabi.

At 314 wickets, Lyon is currently the fourth-highest wicket-taker from Australia in whites. He is behind Dennis Lillee (355), Glenn McGrath (563) and Shane Warne (708).

He overtook Mitchell Johnson (313).
