Chepauk Super Gillies leg-spinner Murugan Ashwin is hopeful of a turnaround in the ongoing edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League despite three heavy losses.

The defending champion lost to Idream Karaikudi Kaalai by 47 runs at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday and Ashwin, who was expected to keep the proceedings tight in the PowerPlay, ended up leaking 42 runs in his four overs.

“My role was to bowl to Anirudha (Srikkanth) in the PowerPlay. We knew he plays fast bowlers well, so we wanted him to play spin. It is a plan that failed,” Ashwin agreed.

The leggie feels the dropped chances could have made a difference. “That probably would have pushed them back. We didn’t play well in the critical stages of the game,” he added.

Having the Indian Premier League experience helps Ashwin weigh the pros and cons. He believes the Super Gillies bowlers missed out on hitting the right length. “Had we hit the right lengths, they wouldn’t have got the boundaries. They got boundaries at crucial stages,” said Ashwin.
