PNG bowler Nosaina Pokana's five-for nipped Oman's chase in the bud and sealed ODI status for his team.

Sese Bau and Kiplin Doriga starred with the bat as Papua New Guinea beat already-qualified Oman by 145 runs to achieve ODI status.  New Guinea also secured a place in ICC Cricket World Cup League 2.

Put in to bat, New Guinea was reduced to five for 32 before Bau and Doriga added 129 runs for the sixth wicket to take their team to a fighting 221/8 at the end of 50 overs.

Fayyaz Butt and Mohammad Nadeem took four wickets each for Oman.

Chasing 222, Oman's batting never got going with skipper Khawar Ali the lone batsman to go past the 20-run mark (29 off 72). Nosaina Pokana's five-for nipped Oman's chase in the bud and sealed ODI status for his team.

PNG captain, Assad Vala said: “We have played very well today and gave ourselves a chance. It has been a very exciting tournament.”
