Parting ways with Sikkim, Milind Kumar joins Tripura

The Delhi-based batsman, who featured for the northeastern state as a guest player last season, has already obtained a No-Objection Certificate from the Sikkim Cricket Association.

After parting ways with Sikkim, Milind Kumar - the highest run-scorer in the Ranji Trophy last season - has joined Tripura for the forthcoming domestic season.

The Delhi-based batsman, who featured for the northeastern state as a guest player last season, has already obtained a No-Objection Certificate from the Sikkim Cricket Association (SCA) and has signed up with the Tripura Cricket Association.

Milind, who is now busy playing the Duleep Trophy, confirmed the development to

Sportstar . “I have decided to move on and hope to play good cricket for my new team,” he said.

Even though the Sikkim Cricket Association wanted to retain him for this season, the batsman, who amassed 1,331 runs in the Ranji Trophy last year, did not want to play in Plate Division anymore.

“I am gearing up for a challenging season. Hopefully, I will be able to deliver the goods,” he said. Milind will be joining the Tripura side - which plays in Group C - after the Duleep Trophy.

After playing for Delhi for eight long years, Milind had decided to shift to Sikkim as he was left out of the Delhi squad. Coming with vast experience, he hit a couple of triple centuries in the Ranji Trophy and emerged as the highest run-getter.

“We wanted to continue with Milind, but he chose to play for a different team. We can’t force a player to stay back, so we issued him an NOC,” one of the officials at SCA said.

In Tripura, Milind will be joined by Harmeet Singh - the Mumbai-based cricketer, who was part of India’s U-19 World Cup winning team in 2012.
