Delhi’s young wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant entered the records book by scoring the fastest century in first class cricket in India when he blazed his way to 135 off 67 balls against Jharkhand, at the KCA-St.Xavier’s College ground here on Tuesday.

Rishabh reached his century off 48 balls to break the record (56 balls) which were held jointly by R. K. Borat and V. B. Chandrasekhar. Coming into bat at the fall of the third wicket, Rishabh struck 13 sixes and eight fours in his blazing knock before he was dismissed in the first over after lunch.

Rishabh, who struck 117 runs in the first innings, hit a total of 21 sixes in the match which is second highest ever hit by a cricketer in a match. The record of 23 sixes stands in the name of Chris Munro of New Zealand who struck all those in one innings.

This was Rishabh’s fourth century of the season. He had earlier struck a triple century against Maharashtra and a century against Assam. He is now the leading run scorer in Ranji Trophy this season with 799 runs.
