Ray of hope for Paranjpe, Khoda?

While Khoda has featured in two ODIS and 132 first-class games, Paranjpe has played four ODIs and 62 first-class games.

The draft constitution that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has submitted to the Supreme Court could well open doors for Gagan Khoda and Jatin Paranjpe to return as selectors.

As per the draft, any former cricketer, who has featured in 20 first-class matches, could be eligible to become a national selector. That means Paranjpe and Khoda - who had to leave the national selection panel for not playing a single Test - could return.

While Khoda has featured in two ODIS and 132 first-class games, Paranjpe has played four ODIs and 62 first-class games.

Last year in January, the two had to quit their posts after the Supreme Court’s order came in asking the Board of implement the Lodha Committee recommendations.

“It is too early to say anything but there is definitely a silver lining,” a top BCCI official told Sportstar .

While the Board officials believe that it is possible for the two to return, the scenario would change if the whole panel is removed at the BCCI in its Annual General Meeting.

In that case, they won’t be able to return. “But yes, if the draft works out, things might work. You never know,” the BCCI official said.

The Board has paid off the salaries of both Paranjpe and Khoda without practically ‘any work’.

As per the BCCI constitution, the selectors can only be removed at the AGM. With the BCCI receiving a boost at the apex court, things could brighten up for the two former cricketers.
