Star India to telecast TN Premier League

The issue of media rights came up before the TNCA executive committee at its meeting here on Sunday. Since Star India has a long association with cricket in the country, there was no opposition to the proposal.

Meanwhile, the TNCA has sent its reply to the State authorities after the CMDA had issued orders for the demolition of the disputed I, J, and K stands at Chepauk. The State cricketing body is hopeful the issues can still be sorted out.

The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) has reached the final phase of its negotiations with Star India for telecasting the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) Twenty20 tournament.

Star India had been the lone bidder for the media rights for the competition before the deadline expired. A reliable source confirmed to Sportstar, “We are very happy that a reputed company like the Star India will be telecasting the tournament. They have the experience and the expertise to make the event a success.”

The issue of media rights came up before the TNCA executive committee at its meeting here on Sunday. Since Star India has a long association with cricket in the country, there was no opposition to the proposal.

Ever since Star India emerged as the lone bidder for the Twenty20 tournament, the TNPL has been working out the finer details with the company.

However, a formal announcement about the association will be made only on June 9, the same day the franchise owners will be decided.

The TNCA, it is learnt, has also allowed the under-19 cricketers in the State to take part in the TNPL. The decision was taken at the executive committee meeting.

The TNCA is also seeking to renew its lease – it has expired - with the State government for the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium.
