England international Stuart Broad will play Big Bash cricket for the first time later this year after signing for Hobart Hurricanes.

Broad, who has not played a Twenty20 international since March 2014 and is looking to force his way back into England's limited-overs teams, joins Sri Lankan Kumar Sangakkara at the club for BBL06.

The 30-year-old featured in T20 Finals Day at Edgbaston on Saturday, where Nottinghamshire lost narrowly in its semifinal, with Broad looking forward to the challenge of playing in Australia. "Australia is one of my favourite places to play, the pitches and the crowds make for great cricket and atmosphere is fantastic," said Broad.

"It has been really good to have Hurricanes teammate Dan Christian playing with me at Notts, who has been really positive about the Hobart Hurricanes and also the city of Hobart, which I'm looking forward to embracing."

The Big Bash gets under way on December 20, with Broad and the Hurricanes first in action against the Sydney Sixers.
