Kohli: “With Ravi bhai, all of us have a great camaraderie. Everyone in the team shares mutual respect and we have done well together as a group."

India captain, Virat Kohli, has made it clear that the team would be ‘very happy’ if Ravi Shastri continues as the head coach.

Shastri and the support staff have been given an extension till the West Indies tour, though the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already invited applications for the coaching roles. Shastri and the others, however, have been included in the process ‘automatically’.

“With Ravi (Shastri) bhai, all of us have a great camaraderie. Everyone in the team shares mutual respect and we have done well together as a group. So definitely, we will be very happy if he continues as the coach. But it is upon the CAC to seek my advise or opinion,” Kohli said before leaving for the West Indies, on Monday.

The Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA), which now runs the administrative affairs of the BCCI, has already formed a three-member panel — comprising Kapil Dev, Anshuman Gaekwad and Shantha Rangaswamy — to select the head coach.

“The CAC hasn’t contacted me yet. If they tell me that they want my opinion, I will go and speak to them. I have not been contacted as of now. I don’t know what’s going to happen in the process,” Kohli said.

The CoA had earlier said that captain Kohli will have no say in choosing the head coach.
