Haryana won the All India Vijay Merchant Trophy (under-16) cricket championship final against Jharkhand by virtue of its first innings lead in the four-day game at the Mulapadu Cricket Complex in Vijayawada on Tuesday.
In the second innings, resuming on its overnight score of 246 for five, Haryana declared on an imposing 502 for nine. A 150-run stand for the sixth wicket between Parth Vats (70, 190b, 12 x 4) and Yuvraj Singh (93, 169b, 15 x 4) laid the foundation for Haryana's batting exploits.
The other crucial contribution came from Sarvesh Rohilla, who scored an unbeaten 60 (99b, 9 x 4).
In the inconsequential second innings, Jharkhand finished at 93 for three in 20 overs chasing an improbable target of 564.
Ch. Arun Kumar, secretary of Andhra Cricket Association, K. Ramesh, administrative manager of Mulapadu Cricket Complex, and C.R. Mohan, media manager of ACA, gave away the prizes.
The scores: Haryana 247 in 101.2 overs & 502 for nine decl in 163.1 overs (Yuvraj Singh 93, Parth Vats 70, Sarvesh Rohilla 60 not out) drew with Jharkhand 186 in 66.1 overs & 93 for three in 20 overs. Haryana won by virtue of first innings lead.
