Women’s T20 World Cup 2024: Shafali Verma becomes second-fastest Indian to score 2000 T20I runs

Shafali got to the mark in 83 innings during the match against Sri Lanka on Wednesday. Mithali Raj is the fastest, managing the feat in 70 innings.

Shafali Verma became the second-fastest Indian women to score 2000 T20I runs during the T20 World Cup 2024 match against Sri Lanka in Dubai on Wednesday.

The Indian opener took 83 innings to reach the milestone, second-best to Mithali Raj’s 70. Smriti Mandhana sits in third position, scoring 2000 runs in 84 innings.

At 20 years and 255 days, Shafali also became the youngest player to scale the mark.

Shafali scored 43 runs off 40 deliveries and was part of a 98-run opening-wicket partnership with Smriti Mandhana. The stand helped India get 172 runs, the highest total of this Women’s T20 World Cup edition.

In return, Sri Lanka was bundled out for 90 runs, handing a massive Net Run Rate boost to India.
