AIFF disciplinary committee to decide punishment for I-League clubs that boycotted Super Cup

The fate of the seven I-League clubs that withdrew from the Super Cup will be decided when the AIFF's disciplinary committee meets on Saturday.

The AIFF's technical committee will hear the depositions of the representatives of the seven clubs – Minerva Punjab FC, East Bengal, Mohun Bagan, Churchill Brothers, NEROCA FC, Gokulam Kerala FC and Aizawl FC.

The fate of the seven I-League clubs that withdrew from the Super Cup will be decided when the All India Football Federation's (AIFF) disciplinary committee meets on Saturday.  The committee, chaired by senior advocate Ushanath Banerjee, will be hearing the depositions of the representatives of the seven clubs – Minerva Punjab FC, East Bengal, Mohun Bagan, Churchill Brothers, NEROCA FC, Gokulam Kerala FC and Aizawl FC – which received show cause notices from the AIFF League committee, which first took up the issue.

AIFF general secretary Kushal Das said in a recent statement that the clubs cannot malign the national federation and should face “strict measures” for their actions. The disciplinary committee, formed primarily with advocates as its members, will have the responsibility of determining the quantum of punishment based on the articles and clauses in the participation agreement of the tournaments signed by the teams at the start of the season. 

The meeting will be held over two days to allow the seven implicated clubs to depose, following which the committee will announce its decision. The clubs next have the option of approaching to the appeals committee.

Meanwhile, the AIFF has decided to appoint Romanian Doru Isac as the new technical director of Indian football.
