Mohd. Ashique Kuruniyan, signed on loan from Indian Super League (ISL) club FC Pune City by Spanish club Villareal CF, suffered a hamstring injury during training last week. The Indian forward underwent ultrasound test and reports confirmed a muscle tear in the middle third of the hamstrings. Further MRI reports confirmed the injury, and the Kerala youngster has been advised to stay away from sporting activities for four to six weeks, according to information from FCPC.

After being monitored by the Villareal medical staff last week, the club has now confirmed that Ashique will return to India and continue rehabilitation at home.

“We hope he can join the team in pre-season next year,” said Juan Anton de Salas, VCF International Business Manager. “Kuru will continue his recovery and early stages of rehabilitation at home. The club would like to wish him a speedy recovery.”

Ashique was chosen for exposure to Spain club football after topping his batch at FCPC academy in Pune.
