“England’s Messi,” an excited English fan tweeted.
“You are now better than Pele ever was,” wrote another in the glorious comments section of Twitter.
“What does Klopp have to say about Brewster?” - the Liverpool fans sought validation.
Rhian Brewster is undoubtedly the man of the moment. Two back-to-back hat-tricks in the quarterfinal (against USA) and semifinal (against Brazil) have propelled him to the top in the goal scorers list and sent England into the FIFA U-17 World Cup final .
“I am feeling great. It is great to score two hat-tricks in two games. It definitely feels like a dream come true,” said Brewster.
“We dug deep. It was obviously a great performance from the lads. Brazil is a very good team, so we just stuck to the plan. We are on to the final,” he smiled contently.
On the expectations for the final, he said: “We are going to work hard and do our best to win the game. Hopefully we will win.”
A visibly delighted Steve Cooper was also effusive in his praise for the Liverpool forward. “I normally don’t talk about individual players, but he needs a special mention. It’s an amazing achievement. To score a hat-trick in the quarterfinal and semifinal is amazing.
It’s not just because of his scoring ability, Cooper asserted. “It’s about the effort he puts in. He wins the ball back quickly. Everyone is clear what they are playing for. It’s not about individual glory, but playing for your country.”
Brazil coach was more toned down in his praise for the youngster. “Not only him, I’ve seen many players in this World Cup who can have a bright senior career. There were also players from Brazil. We will probably see them in the future.”
For the uninitiated, Brewster switched from Chelsea to Liverpool two years ago, looking for progress to the first teams. Klopp had made his intentions for Brewster clear when he refused to give away the teenager even on loan in April. “Physically stronger, wonderfully skilled boy, real striker, good finisher, fantastic work ethic and all that stuff,” Klopp had said then.
He has been named in the senior team only once, as a substitute in a game against Crystal Palace. But all that might change soon if Klopp heeds to cries of the Liverpool fans. The clamour for his inclusion to the first team of Liverpool has been growing exponentially since the first match against Mexico where the 17-year-old scored a stunning freekick. After two successive hat-tricks, it has naturally hit a crescendo.
Another three goals in the final against Spain at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan stadium on Saturday will take him to the top in the list of all-time goal-scorers at FIFA U-17 World Cup. It may be far-fetched to expect another hat-trick from the English forward, but with Phil Foden and Callum Hudson-Odoi assisting him incredibly from either flanks, an in-form Brewster can certainly dream of the improbable. This time, hopefully, with the crowd on his side.
