Modric stunner vs Argentina: More like deja vu

Luka Modric's stunning strike against Argentina on Thursday brings back memories from a similar goal he had scored against Manchester United back in 2013.

Luka Modric sends a curler from 20 yards out to double Croatia's lead against Argentina on Thursday.

Croatia dominated from whistle to whistle and cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win over Argentina on Thursday to scale to the top of Group D in the ongoing World Cup in Russia.

After a goalless first half, Ande Rebic made the most of a goalkeeping blunder to help Croatia take the lead.

However, the standout moment of the match was undoubtedly a stunner that came from Croatian captain Luka Modric in the 79th minute.

Modric received the ball a few yards outside the box, swivelled past Nicolas Otamendi to make room for himself and unleashed a right footed spectacular curler with surgical precision that managed to beat the defenders and an acrobatic Argentine custodian to crash into the back of the net.

However, this isn't the first time Modric has scored a stunner like this. The goal on Thursday had similarties to Modric's stunner from the 2013 Champions League clash between Real Madrid and Manchester United.

Modric, in his first season with Madrid, came on as a substitute with Madrid trailing 1-0 and sent a thunderous strike from 25 yards to equalise and Madrid went on to script a memorable 2-1 win.

With Friday's win, Croatia has all but sealed its spot in the round-of-16 and one can most certainly expect more curling beauties from Modric.
