Striker Ranti Martins had a great outing against Shillong Lajong

Nigerian Ranti Martins scored a hat-trick as East Bengal thrashed Shillong Lajong 4-0 in an I-league encounter, here today. Bikash Jairu was the other scorer for the Kolkata-based team.

East Bengal took a crack at goal in the 10th minute by Rafique but his shot was punched away by Vishal Kaith of Lajong.

East Bengal opened their account in the 17th minute through Ranti, who made a simple tap-in after being assisted by the impressive Sanju Pradhan. But it was all Ranti in the second goal, striking a long-ranger in the 26th minute to put East Bengal comfortably in the lead.

The striker then made it 3-0 and completed a deserving hat-trick, when he weaved past a Lajong defender and the goalkeeper to slot it home.

East Bengal began the second half of the match like it had ended the second. The team continued dominating its opponents from Shillong and produced another breakthrough when Jairu’s miss-hit cross creeped in.

In the 82nd minute, the visitors were reduced to 10 men, after Bernard Mendy was brought down by Konsham, who had already a booking.
