Former Australia forward Tim Cahill has signed for ISL club Jamshedpur FC, becoming the seventh overseas player in the squad.

Cahill was part of the Socceroos' World Cup squad and played 37 minutes in his country's third Group C match against Peru. He announced retirement from national duty after Australia's exit from Russia 2018.  The 38-year-old Cahill scored 50 goals in 107 appearances for the national team.

Now, with less than a month remaining for the fifth season of Indian Super League, the iconic Australian footballer has been signed by the Jharkhand-based franchise.

The club announced its new signing on its official Twitter handle.

"The biggest signing of the 2018-19 season is here! Ladies and gentleman, presenting our latest recruit, a footballing legend - @ Tim_Cahill!," read the tweet.

"I know I can help the team on and off the park with my leadership and experience. I want to help grow the game and encourage young kids to playfootball. I'm looking forward to beginning this next adventure, meeting my teammates at training camp in Madrid," Cahill wrote on his Twitter handle.

The acquisition of Cahill is among the headline signings made by an ISL franchise in its five-season history.

Before Cahill, Jamshedpur had signed nine players (three of which were overseas players) in the off-season, strengthening all areas of the squad. The capture of Cahill is, however, the biggest in the history of the club, which made its ISL debut last season, when it finished fifth.
